Parents and visitors should report to the school lobby where they will be greeted by a member of staff. The school holds a visitors’ log to keep a record of all visits to the school and all visitors must sign in and out.

The school has designated first aiders. In the event of a pupil being taken ill, or sustaining a minor injury, the parent or guardian will be informed and appropriate arrangements made.

If your child needs to take medication, please speak to the school office to complete a consent form. Medicines will be administered by school staff. We ask that parents update the school with any health / medical information about their child.

The school teaches the children the importance of staying safe online and online safety is taken very seriously. The school provides support to parents and can signpost to external agencies for additional support if needed.

One of the aims of the school is to provide a secure, caring and happy environment. Pastoral care of the pupils is the concern of everyone with the Headteacher having overall responsibility.

In the event of a potential child protection concern arising regarding a pupil at the school, then the permission of the parents will be sought before any information is passed to another agency. However, this permission will not be sought if by doing so it is likely to put the child at further risk of harm.

The school conducts termly fire drills / emergency evacuations and an annual invacuation drill.

Additional Learning Needs / Anghenion Arbennig

At Sea View we believe that every pupil has an entitlement to the full range of curricular opportunities. A whole school approach has been adopted in providing for all children who experience additional learning needs at any time during the Primary years. Any child identified by the class teacher as needing extra help will have class work differentiated at a level appropriate to their need. This includes more able and talented children.

Where a child should continue to experience difficulty, the advice of the ALNCO (Additional Learning Needs Coordinator) will be sought in the first instance and, if necessary, outside agencies will be brought in. Individual programmes of work are then devised, implemented and monitored. Parents will be consulted and kept informed at each stage. We have support groups for pupils undertaken by highly trained staff allocated to provide appropriate intervention, in order to support all learners to reach their potential.

The school provides specific focused groups catering for needs such as Dyslexia, DCD, Social Communication and Speech and Language.

Sporting Activities / Gweithgareddau Chwaraeon

We want all of our learners to be healthy and confident individuals who know how to lead fulfilling lives and be willing to take advantage of opportunities and experiences they are given in their adult lives. Sporting activities play a significant role in developing self-esteem, resilience and through developing a sense of competition, challenge children to improve and be the best they can be.

At Sea View, children have the opportunity to experience a range of different sports and physical activities throughout their time at Sea View. These include access to specialist coaching and instruction, swimming lessons and outdoor pursuits.

The main emphasis is on healthy relationships and reflects the age, understanding and needs of pupils as they progress through the school. Parents may view the policy and discuss the teaching materials used.

Welsh Language / Iaith Gymraeg

Welsh is taught as a second language. Children will follow a curriculum to develop spoken and written Welsh. At Sea View Commuity Primary School we strive to create a Welsh ethos by emphasising the importance of the language and by encouraging the use of incidental Welsh in day-to-day routines. We encourage pupils to develop an awareness of Wales as a country and its culture by providing opportunities and promoting ‘cynefin’. This is achieved through a range of events, topics and experiences.

We also encourage participation from the school community in the celebration of St. David’s Day and other Welsh festivals. Pupils take part in a range of competitions and achievements are celebrated.

Complaints / Cwynion

We expect all pupils, staff and parents to listen carefully and respectfully to each other.

Minor complaints should be dealt with by the Classteacher. If you are not satisfied, contact the Headteacher.

All serious complaints must be explained to the Headteacher so that an investigation can take place. Formal complaints must be made in writing.

Parents who are unhappy about something should contact us at once. The Headteacher will always meet concerned parents in order to resolve difficulties.

If you feel that your complaint has not been resolved you may wish to make a complaint to the Chair of Governors (or another member of the Governing Body). The school has a Complaints procedure – a copy of which is available upon request.

If the problem is still unresolved you should inform the Director of Education, in writing. A further attempt will then be made to resolve the problem, if at all possible, before recourse to the official Complaints Procedures.

Details of the Authority's Complaints Procedure are available at any school, Education Department of the Local Education Authority or Public library.

Nursery / Meithrin

We accept children at 3 years of age. It is desirable that all children are toilet trained prior to starting Nursery. If you are having problems with this, then Flying Start and Sea View staff are happy to help.

We run a flexible entry system to try and maximise a positive start to each child’s school career. Children enter school soon after their 3rd birthday. Welcome meetings are arranged at appropriate times during the year to support parents and help children settle into their new school life.

We have good transition arrangements with Sea View Flying Start and a programme of supported visits to Sea View Nursery will be arranged for your child as they approach their third birthday.

We keep a waiting list of children and we encourage parents to place their child’s name on the list after their second birthday, as this helps us with forward planning.

Admissions  / Derbyniadau

Each child about to commence full time education will be offered a place in a school maintained by the Local Authority.

Parents of children in our Nursery Class will need to fill in an on-line application form to secure a reception class place at the school. School staff can assist you with this, just ask at the office.

Admission to older classes can be arranged at any time and parents are asked to consult the office who will assist with the application form which will be sent to the Local Authority.

The Admission Policy and Accessibility Plan (required under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005) provides further information for parents on the guidance and legislation covering admissions and future plans for increasing access to the school by pupils with disabilities, and provides further information as to how the school is active in ensuring equality of education access and provision for all.
